Wendy Wang

Wendy Wang is a first-year medical student at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, where she is pursuing her goal of becoming a physician dedicated to improving healthcare equity and accessibility. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2025 where she studied Cognitive Neuroscience. Her extracurricular and community involvement spanned from serving as an on-campus EMT, researching neurologic injuries and systemic barriers to care, and launching a small business that provides free CPR classes to the greater St. Louis community. During her gap year before medical school, she was a Clinical Research Coordinator at Cedars Sinai Medical Center for a project aiming to more accurately predict cardiovascular outcomes for patients. As a future physician, Wendy Wang hopes to bridge gaps in healthcare for Asian American immigrants and advocate for underserved populations to address health disparities. This scholarship will help ease the financial burden of medical education and allow her to focus more fully on her training and future service to her community.

University of Washington - Seattle

Yilda Macias

​Yilda Macias is a doctoral candidate in epidemiology at the University of Washington and predoctoral fellow in the Developing Data-Driven Cancer Researchers T32 program. Her dissertation investigates the long-term cancer and metabolic consequences of polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome across large prospective cohorts and biobanks. As a first-generation college graduate, she has built her research around health equity while staying rooted in the communities that shaped her, volunteering as a Spanish interpreter at clinical and public health settings, teaching ESL, and mentoring students from underrepresented backgrounds. She plans to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer epidemiology to deepen her training in molecular and omics methods before building an independent research program focused on how hormonal and metabolic disruptions across a person's life shape cancer risk. The Daisy Family Foundation scholarship will support her final year of doctoral training, helping her cross the finish line and take the next step toward the postdoctoral training where she hopes to build the skills to make that research a reality.

California State University, Fullerton

Loren Chua

Loren Chua is a fourth-year nursing student at California State University, Fullerton, pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For the past three years, she has dedicated herself to empowering her community by educating underserved students in the Inland Empire, mentoring aspiring nurses, and providing instruction on culturally competent care. Her efforts have been commended with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students, an honor recognizing the kind of nurse she is working hard to become—one who sees the human behind diagnoses. Through her work, Loren has developed a deep commitment to compassionate, culturally responsive care and to helping future nurses understand the importance of seeing the whole person. As she enters her final year, she aspires to become a nurse in critical care oncology, meeting patients at their most vulnerable, restoring dignity, and dissolving barriers wherever hardship meets care. She hopes to bring the same advocacy and commitment to service that have shaped her nursing education into her future career. This scholarship will allow her to step into the final stretch of nursing school with renewed focus and purpose.
